Web Technology creates an asylum that MAKES CHARITY SMILE
Thu, 01 May 2008
HE LAUNCH of a new website is set to boost the fundraising efforts of a Tees Valley children's charity, thanks to Calm Asylum.
The North East brand agency worked with TFM's Make a Child Smile to launch a modern website that was going to be the hub of the charity's communications campaigns.
The re-vamp comes at an ideal time as the charity is set to break its fundraising records, with targets set for 2008 at almost £1/2 million.
Last year the charity raised £439,000 and supported more than 7000 local children. Make a Child Smile operates all year round to fundraise for local sick, underprivileged and special needs children.
All funds raised are distributed every three months, although the charity also runs specific campaigns, such as the Tommy Leech and Build a Dream funds.
Calm Asylum, based in Middlesbrough, designed and implemented the website entirely free of charge, something that would usually have cost £??.
Make a Child Smile is one of the company's chosen charities, alongside Teesside Hospice and The Main Project.
Mark Easby, account director, said: "This was a very important project for us. Firstly, on a personal note we feel it is very important that as a business in Teesside we support the efforts of local charities in whatever way we can.
"Make a Child Smile is a very successful charity and needed a website to match. This needed to communicate what the charity is about to all markets in a fresh and dynamic way, while also encouraging donations online through an application called Just Giving.
"As well as this, we needed to make the site accessible for the charity's staff too so they could easily update news as and when necessary in a cost effective way."
Dawn Carney, charity manager for Make a Child Smile, said: "Interactive forms of communications, such as websites, are extremely important for charities like us today. We have only two members of staff who are kept extremely busy with the day-to-day activities that come with working for a charity.
"Therefore our website needed to be everything our members of staff are and more; be the eyes, ears and voice of the charity, 24 hours a day seven days a week.
"Since its launch, the website has already played a significant role in the fundraising campaign for Tommy Leech. It has allowed people to watch the video of Tommy, add fundraising events in the community and donate online. So far this campaign has reached £33,000. We only need another £17,000, so this site has been an intrinsic part of this success."
Make a Child Smile has events planned for throughout 2008, so for more information about them and to find out how to donate to the charity, please visit www.makeachildsmile.co.uk.
